Hong Kong strong! Life has been anything but normal the past few weeks. It’s hard to believe how much has happened since our last auction in one of our favorite places in the world, but our resolve remains intact, and we are thrilled to announce our LXXVI Auction, live streaming on Saturday, March 28th starting at 9am HKT. We’re feeding the bullish wine market with another HKD $25 Million across a multitude of collections for our first HK auction in the Year of the Rat! We look forward to life returning to normal very soon, but in the meantime we are certain about one thing: people still need their fine wine, perhaps more than ever before! We cannot wait to keep Acker’s Bicentennial flame burning bright on March 28th!
The first features of this catalogue come from a duo of collectors in in Lots 273-330 and Lots 331-367. The first consignor has kept an eye or two on the prize, hunting out blue chip wines and stocking the cellar with loads of the best from Bordeaux and Burgundy. There are classic Clarets like 1989 Petrus and 2005 Le Pin to whet the palate before Burgundy comes in strong, highlighted by a stretch run of twenty-two lots from Domaine de la Romanee Conti. Other Burgundian superstars came to play, as Dujac, Roumier, Mugnier and Vogue also get their time in the spotlight. The second collector in this pair returns to us with a similarly powerful primetime offering, as he always does. Aged bottles abound with 1982 Petrus and 1959 Latour, plus a strong tie into the power of the parcel with a string of 1966 Bordeaux from Cos d’Estournel and Ducru. The second act of this collection celebrates Burgundy in all its glory with legends such as 1990 La Tache, 1985 Ponsot Clos de la Roche and 1989 Coche-Dury Meursault Perrieres. The roll call of great wines continues with 1978 Guigal La Landonne, 1962 Dom Perignon and several lots of Sassicaia. Both of these collections were removed from professional storage and contain gems throughout!
The second major callout in this great auction comes from a regular fixture in our auction catalogs, and this month he brings us a beautifully curated selection that highlights both quality and quantity in Lots 368-451. This month, he deftly packs powerful multi-case parcels of 1990 Cheval Blanc, 2000 Haut Brion, 2010 Lafite, 1990 Margaux, 2005 Petrus and 1990, 1995 and 2000 Latour! Quantity is quality!!! Dessert is served in the form of seven cases of Yquem harkening back to a case of 1967 before DRC triumphs with selections from the outstanding 2005 vintage including multiple lots of La Tache and Romanee Conti itself. Capped by multiple cases of 2009 Chave Hermitage in Rouge and Blanc, this is indeed a splendid consignment from which any lot would make a fine addition to your cellar!
The market continues to show that it’s ravenous for rare spirits, and we have a bevy of them from all around the globe in Lots 452-519. Here to help distill the decadence and up your backbar game are four spirit-minded collectors with many lots of rarest Scotch whiskey featuring Macallan going back to 1946, Strathisla 1954, Highland Park 50 Year, Bowmore Sea Dragon and 1949 Glen Grant. The fourth collector in this bunch is a global entrepreneur and restaurateur with ventures and venues around the world, and he shares with us the fruits of his labors of decades of collecting the finest Japanese whiskey — fifty lots of the ones everyone raves about from two of the most sought-after names: Hanyu Ichiro and Karuizawa. Nine lots of Hanyu Ichiro’s super rare playing card series commence the festivities before thirty lots of Karuizawa, the long-shuttered distillery, take us back to 1972 with many special bottlings from unique barrels. These are the ultimate bottlings for the avid spirits collector!
